Richard Carroll Brown

May 21, 1949 — May 5, 2023

Richard C. Brown “RB” of Indianapolis, IN passed away early on May 5, 2023, at Roudenbush VA Medical Center with his family by his side. Born May 21, 1949 to Bernie and Novie Marie (Boyd) Brown. He served his country from 1968-1969 as a member of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. RB married Julie McLeod in 1976 and welcomed Yvonne, Yvette, and Richard into their family. After going their separate ways in 1981, RB met his current wife Nancy (Frederick) and they added Kala, Eric, and Keli to the family. In the years following RB and Nancy with Julie worked together in Manistee County MI to raise a family that Richard was proud of. After his
family, one of his proudest accomplishments was returning to night school and earning his high school diploma in 1990. After many years of dropping out, he was able to show his children that no matter what happens or how long it takes you can always go back. As a mechanic RB enjoyed working with cars and engineering new ideas. Other hobbies include reading, fishing, crafting, and spending time with family and friends. RB had a big heart and was a father and grandfather figure to many people that came into his life. He is survived in life by his wife Nancy Brown, his children Yvonne (Victor) Hernandez, Yvette Moran, Richard (Arley) Brown, Kala (Eddie) Fitzgerald, Eric (Irene Rose) Brown, Keli (Dan Charnes) Brown. His grandchildren Joey Diaz, Isaac Diaz, Meleah Hernandez, Eva Hernandez, Tomas Moran, Jordan (Riley Schlosser) Moran, Braxton DeLeon, Benny DeLeon, Arnold DeLeon, Keagan Brown, Gavin Brown, Hannah Fitzgerald, Maddax Fitzgerald, Conner Fitzgerald, Devon Brown, Dylan Brown, and Amaya Sisson. His great-grandchildren Adalynn, Elaina, Julian, and Valerie. His sisters Edna McArthur, Christine Hulett, and Joyce Hutchinson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Bernie and Novie Marie, his sisters Martha Miehlke, Brenda Martin, Patty Brown and his brother Larry O’Conner. Per his wishes no funeral services will be held. However, a celebration of life will be held in August (date to be determined) in Wellston, MI. In lieu of flowers RB requested any donations to be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in his name, and to remember to tell your loved ones you love them and to visit them often.
